Carbon Steel from WEBstaurant Store?

In the various discussions on carbon steel skillets, I don't recall anyone mentioning these offered at the WEBstaurant Store.

Has anyone tried these? The prices are so cheap, it's a good way to dip a toe in the carbon steel pond without spending a lot of money. I wonder how thick the pans are.

I might order one just out of curiosity.

The website states that the pans(Volrath) are 16 gauge=1.65 mm(I think)
DeBuyer pans are around 2.5mm so....

So, the pans that are priced lower than the Volrath are probably thinner. Thanks for the translation with the gauge listed.

          breadchick,

I believe they fall somewhere between DeBuyer's La Lyonaise (1-1.5mm*) and Force Blue (2mm) pans. The Mineral B and Carbone pans are 2.5-3mm* thick.

I wouldn't use them for high heat unless you're cooking on gas, but they'd be great for eggs and such, or a quick veggie toss.

*The really large pans in a line get the thicker steel.
