Gumbo Jeaux - near IAH

They don't have a website but here's their FB page:

Due to missing a flight connection, we spent a night near the Houston IAH airport recently. We were on foot that this place was nearby. We were just looking for lunch fuel and got way, way more than that. I'd make a special trip to eat here though another customer said they do have other locations. Their menu is extensive and the place was busy and, according to one of the cooks, stay that way all the time.

We shared the "Surf and Turf Burger" which was a large, cooked to order burger, with lightly battered and fried shrimp and a couple of big onion rings. It was just crazy good. Other people's food looked equally good.

So I recommend this to anyone in Houston and to anyone with a long enough layover that leaving security isn't a problam. It's just a short cab ride and you won't regret it. BTW, no alcohol is served. Enjoy.

  1. Good to know, the area around IAH is a wasteland, particularly on Beltway 8 to I-45 and beyond. Nothing but a gas station with a coke machine and a lone seafood restaurant named Jimmy G's which has pretty good food, but some variety is nice. Thanks for the tip.

We also had breakfast at Hot Biscuit just a little down the road. Also quite good. I believe the sign said breakfast 24 hours a day.
