Falafel King?

KaimukiMan Sep 20, 2013 08:36 PM

Where did Falafel King go? Or is it just gone?

Maybe overthrown by a group of peasants with pitchforks.

          ahh. that would explain it.

i always wondered how a business in Hawaii could survive when it was closed from sunset on Friday through Sunday morning. It would work fine downtown, but in Moiliili? Kosher rules kinda conflict with 'modern life'.

Been meaning to send an email to them and see how they are and if there really are plans....i'll report back if i hear something...

hey KM -- its less "kosher rules" and more the deeply ingrained jewish practice of observing shabbat, the day of rest, reflection, family, freedom. From Friday eve until Saturday eve...which does mean they miss out of some $$$ for sure, but to each their own.

my misuse of language. i guess kosher refers just to food. but i do know about no work after sunset on friday . . . and like you said, you have to admire people for adherence to their principles.

Can always go to Leo's Taverna on Bishop St. Their falafel and gyros are very good. So is their roast chicken to take home for dinner.

I haven't tried it, but they now have the kiosk outside the door to Don Quijote on Kaheka...might be worth a try to see if it matches up to the Bishop St, which has always been good.
