Old School Italian Restaurants

  • 4

Anyone know of some old school italian places? Not interested in franchise places, but would like to find one that's been at the same location for 40 plus years. They typically are dark inside have the same tacky paintings, posters, and seating areas they had 40 years ago but serve excellent Italian food at a fair price.

  1. Salvatore is a national treasure, IMO.

Kaleo, you took the words right out of my mind. Salvatore has the whole checkered-tablecloth and wickered wine bottle drippping candleabra thing nailed, entirely supported by the same dark-suited Wise-Guy approved same attentive waiters forever. They get major service points, too, for their knowledge of the menu and how the modest wine-list fits the food. On top of all that, Salvatore can COOK. At risk of getting kicked-out for repeating myself, I had the best-prepared piece of Halibut of my life there off the special-board (look there first). Simple, unadorned but for a fine plain mirapoix and perfectly cooked. Perfectly.

        That's why I urge everyone to go to Rione 13... ;) ;)

Thank you Kaleokahu, Stowell is popping up new houses faster than I can eat.
