Gelato Pizza

A new location just opened on Queen West. Has anyone tried this or any of the other locations?

  1. People would go to a place called "Gelato Pizza" on purpose?

      I know. I've walked by it several times, but haven't felt compelled enough to drop in. But apparently it's a chain, with @ least 3 locations in the city. I think there's one on Queen St W, right by GE, one on Eglinton, and now one on Queen, close to University.

        For Gelato, Boreal is right next door, which is some of the best in the city. For Pizza, I'd go elsewhere.

          Boreal's been on my list for a while. But I still haven't managed to make it in.

                I am a fan of their pizza which IMO is better then pizzaiolo. Did not know they had other locations besides the queen west parkdale spot.

                  They just opened the Queen W (West of University) location.

                So I went to Boreal this morning to try their gelato. And you were right. It's outstanding. It was so creamy...really delish!!!

                I got the vanilla (because I'm a sucker for anything vanilla) and the pumpkin pie, and it literally tasted like I was eating a slice of pumpkin pie with vanilla ice cream.

                Funny thing though, the Gelato Pizza is just 2 doors down.

                  Np. It's really some of the best, if not the best Gelato in TO. GP being two doors down is a slap in the face - that guy should have opened somewhere else.

                    It was kind of ironic. Kind of like having a Walmart right beside Holt Renfrew :)

                      2 years of Boreal excellence! I am so glad for her commitment to excellence over a cheaper price point.

                      Thankfully Gelato Pizza turned out to be inferior because Boreal built the demand and then they opened just a couple doors over the next year.

                        I just clicked on the link and saw you raving about Boreal's banana chocolate chip. OMG...that sounds soooo good! They didn't have that today. Is that one of their regular flavours?

                        P.S. I can't wait to go back and try more of their flavours :)

                          I didn't see it the last two times but the pistachio remains outstanding.

        2. I've tried the location on Eg & Ave Rd twice..(It's just down the street from me) nothing special.. I won't be going back...
          Better pie to be had at Pizzaiolo which is almost as close..

    's too bad I was hoping it would fill a much needed void in da hood.
              I don't mind Pizzaiolo for a quick, drunken slice, but that's about it :)

          2. I hate the name too but the pizza at GP (calling it that so I don't have to say the name) is actually pretty good. Thicker crust...they start it in a pan then pull it out and finish it crust on the deck of the oven. Very crunchy. And they have old-timey pepperoni that curls into cups that fill with yummy rendered salty grease. Gotta ask for it...but of you have love of pepperoni, it's gooooood...

                I agree, the slices are quite good. I tried the Manhattan (spinach with gorgonzola, $4.95) at the 1091 Queen E location last night. Thicker, doughy crust, but crispy on the outside. Much better than any slices I've had at any Pizzaiolo location in the last year.


              2. I tried both the pizza and the gelato at the Queen West location. The pizza was probably the better of the two, though that's not saying a whole lot. As childofthestorm mentioned, it's thick crust and it's super crunchy. I was put off by it when I first started eating it, but it grew on me. It was topped with spinach, cheese, and a pretty insane amount of roasted garlic (I was tasting garlic for the rest of the day). I doubt I'll ever get it again, but it wasn't horrible.

                As for the gelato, I got two flavours -- chocolate and hazelnut, and neither was too impressive. The chocolate was particularly mediocre, with a muddled, barely-there chocolate flavour. Neither was all that creamy. Again, not horrible, but I'm pretty sure I could get gelato of the same caliber in the freezer section of the supermarket.

                1. Really expensive, mediocre gelato.

                    They don't make it in-house. I wouldn't bother with it.
