Los Angeles Dish of the Month (October 2013) - Nominations

Fall is upon us (well, at least, it will be when DoTM October rolls around), so it's time to turn to the first DoTM for the new season.

The idea is this: choose a 'Dish of the Month' for the LA area and then collectively try as many versions of this dish as possible during the month of October, reporting back with details and photos. It's great to talk about places you've been in the past, but the idea is to explore new places and make new discoveries.

The dish that gets chosen might be something very specific (cow anus) but might also be more of a dish category (marine creatures with legs). It's up to everyone here, but it probably makes sense to choose something that locals are excited about trying and finding the best and most interesting versions!

Some ideas off the top of my head to perhaps get the juices flowing:

Anyway, this is the nomination thread for October 2013…you can nominate as many dishes as you want, but once we do the voting thread (which will start on September 26), it will be one vote per user.

To nominate a dish, please (please!) post it in ALL CAPS in the responses below. This thread will be open until 11:59 PM PDT on September 25th.

But only if it's liquid Kobe Cow Anus.

                1. re: ipsedixit

Somehow, I'm now extremely grossed out at liquid Kobe cow anus where Kobe cow anus was funny. Go figure.

Not to mention feeling like a lush for no one else jumping on board with the fall beers.

                  1. re: ipsedixit

Trappist liquid Kobe Cow Anus Ale.

                    1. FRIED CHICKEN
                      POT PIES (includes shepherd's pies)

I love how my email notifications ignore line breaks...

"FRIED CHICKEN POT PIES" YES PLEASE!

(Why hasn't someone invented this yet?!?)

                        1. re: PeterCC

Genius! They are now trademarked to nosh.

Just have to figure out how to keep the crusts crispy while in the gravy.

                          1. re: PeterCC

Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know the other possibility -- take a chicken pot pie and deep-fry it. Sorta like an entree cronut. But I think the magic of fried chicken is the crunchy crust covering the juicy hot succulent meat, so the fried chicken needs to be on the inside.

                            1. re: PeterCC

It has been invented. Quite a while ago.

                            2. Any interest in doing a change up and doing K-town as neighborhood of the month? Weather cooling off. Time for crab and beef stews...

Best idea so far:) K-town rocks.

                                  1. re: steve h.

Type K-town in caps and we'll see if ipse will add it to the voting thread!

To make it interesting, no Park's or Soot Bull Jeep.

                                      1. re: Porthos

If my suggestion of sausage were to win, I was definitely going to hit up some soondae in K-TOWN. Does that count?

                                        1. re: PeterCC

Sure. Or you could pick K-town and dig up sausage specialists in K-town.

I feel like there are so many gems and specialists in K-town worth digging up in the original spirit of Chowhound. The ease and deliciousness of Korean beef BBQ probably prevents us from digging deeper.

                                          1. re: Porthos

Alright since this is the nominating board and I think sausage is safely on the ballot so I'll also nominate K-TOWN.

                                        2. re: Porthos

That's a bold move. My take is that you've preempted some posts.

                                          Make it so.

If it gets enough votes, sure, absolutely. Why not, right?
