Home Cooking Dish of the Month (October 2013) - Nominations

Nominations are now open for the October Home Cooking Dish of the Month.

It's time to take a break from steaming clams and mussels (September's Dish of the Month) to consider what we'll be cooking in October. Something autumnal? Something spooky? It's up to you!

Nominations will be open until September 26th at 11pm Pacific time (2 am on September 27th Eastern time, and 6 am September 27th GMT). Please nominate your dish using ALL CAPITAL LETTERS. (If you discuss the dish elsewhere in the thread, please type it in lower case. This makes it easier to count the dishes in caps, without counting more than one nomination for each person.) Remember that a dish is loosely defined as an ingredient and a method of preparation.

You may nominate more than one dish. The dishes with the most nominations will move on to the voting round, where each person only gets one vote. If you haven't joined us before, feel free to jump in!

Always popular, but certainly not seasonal.

            1. re: greygarious

i didn't say they were seasonal-
i enjoy making these anytime of the year

              1. re: greygarious

grey, inasmuch as they are a very popular offering during football games, I would argue that for many of us they are seasonal. :)

                1. re: GretchenS

Agreed...football season is pretty much the only time I ever want to make wings.

            1. MARINATED CHICKEN WINGS

              1. BAKED APPLES: There are many varieties of apples and almost as many choices of stuffing and sauce, offering an almost endless number of combinations.

                  1. PICKLES AND CHUTNEYS I'd love to experiment more with pickling and canning.

WINTER SQUASH SOUPS AND CURRIES (including pumpkin, of course).

CHILE (or chili, if you prefer). Any type, with beans, without beans. Heated debate may ensue.

                    1. I will second LN's nomination of

                      CHILI/CHILE
                      esp. unusual kinds:)!

                      or

                      STUFFED VEGETABLE DISHES
with this idea, we could do stuffed squashes, eggplants, peppers; what have you!

thearborist - Which dish are you "thirding"? Please type the dish(es) you want to nominate in all caps so they can be counted.
                          Thanks!

                        2. re: gingershelley

I really like the idea of stuffed vegetables!

I'm not home and am unsure when I will return so I don't really feel comfortable voting...my cooking possibilities may be very limited.

                          1. re: gingershelley

I could definitely get behind STUFFED VEGETABLES also.

                            1. SOUPS (not necessarily squash types, but all types)

                                1. MARINATED CHICKEN WINGS

since i don't watch any kind of sporting event, wings have no connotation for me except good anytime.

                                  1. Nominations are now closed.
