worthwhile on the go lunch btwn tours nr 16th Mission or Cali/Powell [San Francisco]

Don't think I'll have time for a sit down - -Dashing between walking tours - 1st ends at 12:45 pm by 16th Street Mission Bart and next one starts at 2pm at California Street btwn Powell & Mason.

Any quick good do not miss casual eats by either place?

Saw Mission Banh Mi and Chilean emapnadas in Mission but I was hoping for quick Mexican or something we don't have in NYC.

Snacky stuff will work great - just don't want to miss something that might be amazing close by.

Thank you in advance SF chowhounds!!

  1. There are any number of quick taco/buritto places around the 16th and Mission BART station. I like Pancho Villa, others prefer La Cumbre and there are plenty more.

Then jump on BART for two stops until Powell Street. It's a bit uphill to get to Powell and California, so you might want to look for a cab, since time is a little tight.

Pamf thanks for the tips & heads up about my journey - I always seem to get the uphill walks :)

I second the rec for Pancho Villa. It's my favorite taqueria within a 2 block radius of 16th St. BART.

          thanks dave! appreciate the response

You should go to Pancho Villa. A quick burrito - or better, tacos - on the run between spots is exactly the way a mission burrito should be eaten. Pancho Villa has a broad menu, the line moves quickly, and the food really is pretty good.

Panchita's for Salvadoreno but I dunno if there's time in your window.

        2. There's a taco truck just off 16th a couple of blocks east of Mission, numerous pupusa places nearby, Poc-Chuc and several other Yucatecan places.

Poc Chuc tempts me because I LOVE yucatanean style antojitos but worried it may take too long to get and run. Robert do you think it would be quick?

            1. re: debvil

I don't know. There are a couple of other Yucatecan places closer to 16th and Mission.

              1. re: debvil

Poc Chuc is great but would not be quick. Pancho Villa would be your safest bet. I like them for their carne asada/shrimp combo burrito..

Also quick & good in the area is Truly Med for shawarma.

            2. whatever your choice is, eat your lunch around 16th and Mission, don't EVEN think about Cal and Powell for ANYTHING quick easy or casual that's not a fast food dump or slow, difficult and formal like in a hotel.

ok that's not fair and I know it's not true, but the poster doesn't have time to browse.

a taqueria's burrito might be large, but it's not the kind you get anywhere else (even at places that CLAIM they do CA style) - just tuck what's left into your backpack for later. everyone does.

              1. debvil - the consensus is: quick easy cheap lunch on the run? 16th and Mission and tons of choices. tool around the board for a place for an idle nibble or glass after the tours.

Thank you all for the tips - i think it's gonna be Pancho Villa & I SWEAR I won't even think of eating on the BART!!
