24 hours in Austin...

We'll be arriving in Austin around noon on Friday, November 8 and staying at the Driskill for one night, then picking up a car the next day and driving to San Antonio (stopping in Lockhart for BBQ). Three questions:

1. Where to go for a "get adjusted" lunch and drink? Would like to be able to walk from hotel but would consider cabbing it if necessary.
2. Rather than a big old sit-down dinner, we thought we'd start out at the Driskill for Happy Hour, then bar hop downtown for food and music Friday night. Suggestions?
3. Breakfast tacos Saturday morning? Would appreciate your recommendations.

Looking forward to just getting a feel and flavor of Austin. Thanks in advance!

  1. For lunch, maybe walk to Backspace for some great pizza and a Peroni or Italian wine. If you drive I would say Habanero Cafe or El Meson for good Mexican, Sway for upscale Thai, Hopdoddy for a burger or Elizabeth Street Cafe for Viet/French.

    Great Happy Hours spots:
    Parkside, Backspace, La Condessa

Easy Tiger is a cool place, but in general 6th street is a trainwreck.

Arro, Swifts Attic are good places for small bites and good drinks.

Get a coffee at Houndstooth on your way out of town in the morning and get your breakfast tacos at El Taco Rico.

Thanks, Slick. La Condesa looks particularly inviting...especially the photo of the margaritas on their home page slide show!
