Legit Bad Ass Taco stand in Thousand Oaks!
I was driving along Thousand Oaks Blvd this evening and came a across a green neon sign emblazoned with "Street Tacos". Swung the car around to check it out.
Woooooohoooooooo! Finally a legit taco stand in suburbia! Its located in an open space adjacent to the 'Meat Locker'; a Santa Maria style BBQ joint that is only open during the day. At night it apparently transforms into an alfresco dining taco stand accompanied by another table selling Mexican pastries - they go by Badass Taco and Valley Bakery respectively.
Anyway the taco options lean towards safer meat offerings, only exotic items on the menu are Lengua and Cabeza, decent nonetheless. I ordered the Lechon, Conchinita, Cabeza, and Pac-Chuc (a spicy pork concoction) tacos. There is an obligatory salsa bar with 4 different salsa - avocado, verde, roja and chopped onion salsa(?), chopped onions, cilantro, lime, radish.
Dining space is alfresco under a large tent - Awesome!
Other than the salsa not being spicy enough, the tacos are as tasty as what you might find in East LA without the long trek.
Terrific addition for us suburbanites.

Interesting! There's a similar sign hung on Fridays in front of Latino Market on TO Blvd. just west of the 23 Fwy., which appears to be sort of a separate operation from the taqueria inside (not exactly sure how that works, but that's what I gather from eating there a few times). It looks as you describe this stand, and it's been operational for at least a year. I wonder if they're the same people?
And, Valley Bakery is/was located up in Oak Park in the Lindero/Kanan shopping center next to a karate studio, but it looked shuttered when I moved here a year and half ago. Check of Yelp indicates that it's open.
Looking forward to trying, thanks for posting. Good thing since my go-to Mexican place in that stretch (Los Agaves) recently closed.
