Panama City/Contadora Island
Few quick hits and misses from my recent trip to Panama City and Contadora Island.
Maito: Definitely the best meal of the trip. Excellent service, food and cocktails. Ordered the stuffed shrimp with black risotto, just a great meal overall.
Manolo Caracol: Great experience. Loved the blind 11 course tasting menu. Not every course hit perfectly but you could see the vision in every dish. I also enjoyed being able to walk into the wine cellar to pick a bottle of wine as opposed to a wine list.
Mercado de Mariscos: Stopped at 3 different vendors for ceviche, all great and perfectly fresh. If I lived in PC this would be a regular stop for me.
Cava15 at the Trump hotel: Probably the best cocktail place we hit during the week. Once again excellent service and very well crafted cocktails when you steer them away from the overly sweet cocktail menu.
Las Clementinas: Visited here for sunday brunch and it lived up to its billing. Love the vibe and food.
Very limited choices as it is a very remote island. I would say Gerald's is the best of the bunch, especially if you focus on the fresh seafood. Had an excellent rock lobster dish one evening. Otherwise Clarita's is nice as well, limited menu choices but casual and very tasty. Overall contadora island is for relaxing not eating, which is fine becuase the beaches around the island are completely remote and empty which more than made up for a mediocre food.
