Kalamazoo - Food, Beer, and College Football

My wife and I will be in Kalamazoo one saturday and are looking for recommendations for a bar in which to spend most of the afternoon.

Top priority is multiple screens to watch a variety of games; second priority is craft beer on tap; last priority is decent food.

We are staying near Western Michigan but would also like recs downtown.

  1. This is totally off topic but all I know is that two if the best breweries in the country are located in Kalamazoo: Founders and Bells. If I was in the area a visit to both would be a must.

Founders is in Grand Rapids, not Kalamazoo. I don't think Bell's has a lot of television screens. Not a sports fan personally, but there are a lot of bars in the vicinity of East Michigan Ave. east of Portage St. downtown, and I'd be surprised if one didn't fill the bill.

Bars near WMU are mostly west of campus, W. Michigan Ave. area.

          Oh, yeah.

We ended up going to Shakespeare's pub on Kalazamoo Ave.

First impressions are misleading - outside, it looks fairly sketchy, but inside the bar is modern, clean, and very welcoming. We enjoyed several local beers, good food (I had the french dip sandwich, my wife the turkey panini) and watched multiple games at once. I would definitely recommend it.

Later, we went to to the Kalamazoo Beer Exchange, which was similarly impressive.
