Orjuwan. Oh my god, Orjuwan.

Just ate my way through Tel Aviv, Jerusalem (okay, not so much focused on the food in Jerusalem), and Ramallah. Orjuwan was definitely the stand-out meal in a trip that was amazingly good for food all around. Anyone who is going to Israel *needs* to eat at Orjuwan. Any minor checkpoint hassles you experience will be totally worth it.

While we're on the topic, quickie Tel Aviv restaurant thoughts:

-Orna & Ella -- was alright, didn't really live up to the huge hype about it. Points to them for having unfiltered Goldstar in bottles rather than just normal Goldstar, which goes much better with a meal than the regular draft does.

-Mizlala -- amazingly tasty, wonderful meal. Probably my favorite meal in Tel Aviv.

-Herbert Samuel -- really good stuff, though it felt a bit... un-tel aviv? if I can put it that way. Almost felt like it was airlifted from New York and plopped next to the Mediterranean. Mizlala felt much more in and of the city. :)

-Shakespeare Green Bar -- you're in Tel Aviv, so you're drinking damn good smoothies or you're wasting your time. This place makes a great go-to. Fresh craft smoothies with tons of vegetable mixing options (and very easy to order anything you want custom, for the smoothie connoisseurs) a record player spinning old soul and jazz records on vinyl in the heart of Dizengoff... perfect.

-The Vegan Shawarma -- went for my wife, who wanted to try vegetarian shawarma. Was kinda meh, IMHO.

-Sabich Frishman -- Best sabich I had all trip. I hear Sabich of Oved is its equal, though that's not in nearly so central of a location.

-Hummus Abu Marwan -- delicious.

And for that other Israeli specialty, gelato:

-Aldo -- quality is weirdly dependent on location and flavors on any given day. Best for their blended froyo rather than their gelato.

-Gelateria Siciliana -- probably the consistently highest-quality gelato I had in what is undoubtedly a strong city for gelato.

-Vaniglia -- didn't live up to the hype.

Very nice, thank you ! I like a lot Mizlala and think that the menu there is pretty interesting and smart relatively to many Tel Aviv places, also i liked a lot their desserts, good quality and ingridients..
Shame that Vaniglia did not deliver :-( It is my only goto ice cream outside of home stuff and i think that it is pretty good, unfourtanatly not much creativity and changes there in last couple of years.
Not familiar with Shakespeare Green Bar, thanks for the info.. Regarding Orjuwan i will never have a chance to eat there so would be glad to hear more from you about the special meal :-)
