My favorite episodes are the Waldorf Salad & Gourmet Dinner nights. I like the Germans too. Does anyone else like this show or want to discuss it?

I never make Waldorf salad without thinking I'm fresh out of Waldorfs. Apples, celery, walnuts and grapes in a mayonnaise dressing.

          From the same episode:

Miss Gurke: I'm sorry, but do you think we could cancel our fruit salads?
Sybil: Well, it's a little tricky, Chef's just opened the tin.

          both from the same episode:

(as heard) "too small and dry" "oh I wouldn't say that"

          and "sorry - duck's off"

We watch all the episodes about once a year. Too bad they made so few. Love the bit when Basil 'accidently' puts his elbow into the back of the little brats head.
Remember when Basil went after with the Irish contractor with the garden nom
That actor was in the movie 'Waking Ned Divine'. One of the best movies ever made IMO.

How about the kid complaining about the shape of the chips?

Master Heath: [to Basil] Haven't you got any PROPER chips?

Basil Fawlty: Well, these ARE proper French-fried potatoes. You see, the chef IS Continental.

Master Heath: Couldn't you get an English one?

Mrs. Heath: Why don't you eat just one or two, dear?

Master Heath: They're the wrong SHAPE.

Basil Fawlty: Oh, dear... What shape you usually have? Mickey Mouse shape? Smarties shape? Amphibious landing-craft shape? Poke-in-the-eye shape?

We seem to need regular doses of "Fawlty Towers" in our household!

One bit of fun we have: during times of heavy hosting duties (along with maybe one too many glasses of wine and a little are-we-doing-this-AGAIN menu-planning stress), my husband and I have blown off a little steam by cracking each other up with Basil-esque dinner party plans. Imagine the possibilities. We have. <grin>

A Fawlty Towers theme dinner party might actually be pretty fun with the right people.

                          not a 'Ritz' salad?

ehh the point would be to plan something really nice and it all goes down the toilet in a hideous and shaming way.

that doesn't sound like much fun unless it's clearly rural, everyone is drunk and there for a sleep-over anyway.

"Of course it is, I just opened the bottle."

This morning I show 'she who must be obeyed' the clip where Basil attacks his car with a branch. We then go out shopping. We then see this guy get out of his car at the side of the road and start to kick in the drivers door. Life is stranger than fiction.
