Any ideas for a decent dinner between Sherman Oaks and The Hollywood Bowl?

  1. If you're heading down Ventura and over Cahuenga....a couple of Italian places are nearby and good. Ca Del Sole and Ombra. They are near Universal. Both very nice food and service. Ca Del Sole has a lovely patio.

Ombra is already closed and out of business.
Now home to the donar kebab, via Spitz.
If you might want to take food with you to the bowl, Joe's Falafel for take-out, or Mantee for dine in/take out if Middle Eastern might be of interest.
If you want a casual yet good meal of Chinese food, Kung Pao Bistro at Ventura & Tujunga , in the same center as Video West. Orders can be made to go, and while the decor will never overly entice, you can also eat there, which I recommend over take-out. Chinese food continues to cook in take-out containers, and goes downhill very fast in those containers.

Not according to their outgoing voice mail message on their business telephone. Where do you see an announcement of their closing? I looked around online and didn't see anything that would confirm that.

I just did see a mention of them closing on Open Table at the end of August, so that seems to be the case. Especially telling that you can no longer make a reservation for Ombra on Open Table.

    2. You can't go wrong at Miceli's on cahuenga. In addition to the entertainment, they even have New Haven style clam pie.

      1. wow. i had no idea they had closed. that's a shame. i had a couple of very nice experiences there.

        1. Smoke City Market in Sherman Oaks
Pick up at either Pita Kitchen or Star Falafel (both in Sherman Oaks) and just bring to the Bowl
          Ramen Jinya in Studio City

Respectfully disagree with you on 'Pita Kitchen'.

I ordered the falafel plate with hummus.
The falafel was okay, the hummus was bland and the pita was stale tasting.
With the amount of people waiting in line I would have guessed the food stellar.
            It was mediocre, at best.
