Singapore - The Perfect Bowl of Noodles at Yuan Chun Famous Lor Mee (驰名源春卤面)

Yuan Chun Lor Mee at Amoy Street Food Centre has been a favourite of mine for as long as I can remember. Its rendition of the Hokkien "lor mee" combined perfectly-flavoured "lor" (a starchy, gooey brown-coloured soy/5-spiced gravy, streaked with egg ribbons) with flat, slippery Hokkien noodles, minced raw garlic, chopped-up crunchy prawn/fish fritters, fish meat and beansprouts.

Unlike 20 years ago, when you get jars of minced raw garlic and bottles of black vinegar on the table to add to your bowls of noodles yourselves, Yuan Chun these days have simplified their serving method to simply providing a spoonful of black vinegar with chopped red chillis atop each bowl of "lor mee".

But the combination of flavours and textures were marvellous all the same - the perfect comfort food for the likes of me. Yuan Chun, IMO, is a class above *all* other "lor mee" spots in Singapore.

yah i almost turned in a lemming and wanted to get in long. It was the only place at that hour that had a line and the line was at least 2x longer than any other spot at that hour.

however, i knew was about to eat a ridiculous amount of food, so i stopped myself (fourseasons at like 4-5 stalls @ old airport road, 2 @ hong lim and one restaurant)...needless to say it was only meal i ate all day (not sure ive ever eaten that much in one sitting for)
