Table for One

I'm in NYC for business next Wednesday, traveling alone. Any recommendations on an interesting meal with a vibe that's good solo?

  1. Many, many restaurants are friendly to solo diners here, especially given how many business travelers pass through town.

Nearly every restaurant welcomes diners at the bar (or lounge area) as well, which is handy for solo dining.

    What's your budget?

What cuisines are you looking for?

Where are you staying, and are you willing to travel?

What kind of vibe are you looking for? Bustling or quiet?

Budget is not much of a concern, probably under $100-$150 with drinks.

For cuisine, I'm looking for innovation & creativity. I tend to avoid places using traditional definitions (ie Italian, French, Thai) as I've been able to experience most of those in their native countries. Not opposed a great example, though.

I'm actually staying near LGA, so Queens & Brooklyn are on my radar too (I have another CH post out there for those areas). I'm OK on the train or cab into Manhattan if there's a worthwhile destination.

I like bustling scenes. It's a good chance to make conversation & people watch.

For reference, my recent Manhattan meals (over 4-5 years) have included Ssam Bar, Daniel, Momofuku Ko, Babbo, Balthazar.

Great, thanks for those details. Based upon what you've already tried in Manhattan, I think we have similar taste.

        Take a look at:
        Acme
        Pearl & Ash
        Alder
        Louro
        Montmartre
        Recette
        Mission Chinese
        Empellon Cocina
