Hi there, I'd like to send my friend who's starting cancer treatment a gift of food the day she has her first treatment. I'd like the food to be delivered this coming Wednesday (week from today). I'd like to stick with American comfort fare--so far I've come up with Zingerman's but could use more options! Any great, reliable on line food companies I should check out?

Thank you for all your thoughtful suggestions. Bc it was my best friend's first round of chemo she was not having any aversions immediately after. I went with a local restaurant that carried a lot of her favorite comfort foods--they delivered to her home. She was so excited and happy to not have to think about what to make on such a draining day for her. I will keep your suggestions on file bc I will periodically be sending her treats. Thanks again.

Not sure if this is what you are looking for but I've gotten really good quality nuts from this place. We've had the peanuts, cashews and pistachios all great.

They have mixed assortments with chocolates as well, which I have not tried.

My experience with cancer patients is that when their taste buds get screwed up from the chemo, that cold sweet things still taste good. Graeter's Ice Cream?

I second this, and sometimes nothing tastes good. I'd hate for your gesture to go to waste. Maybe some chocolates or candy that would last a while so when he person is having a good taste us moment they can enjoy it

Another vote for ice cream! Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream from OH is fantastic. Some delicious and unique flavors.

Can your friend handle a bit spicy?

If so, I heartily recommend King's Barbecue:

While I was disappointed with the hush puppies; everything else in the sandwich pack was authentic Eastern NC barbecue with fixings.
