West Hill Wine Bar - Who's Been?

Googs Sep 4, 2013 07:32 PM

Where are the reports from the Scarborough East Hounds? Scarberian? Pincus? Dr Butcher?

Been there twice. Same experience every time. Don't go hungry because you will wait a long time for your food. Everything was almost room temperature. Music over the speakers was way too loud and a strange assortment, some a bit irritating. Server had on way too much cologne that the odor lingered long after he left. Mark up on wine is a bit ridiculous. Food, and prices are not worth the wait.

There's a visual of the food.

Just went last night. A no nonesense place where service is as stellar as food. Live music too (guitarist playing the likes of Oasis). Dishes are beautifully plated. Finally, a worthy high end restaurant in Scarborough. Decor is minimalist and doesn't compare to downtown restaurants but I'm just there for the food.

Were you there for the wine too? The online wine list is a bit of a yawn. I'm hoping they have more interesting, less Vintages Essentials in house.

They do have a byow licence, if that's what is holding you back! I've been holding off going back for a bit because of the star review. Maybe we can make a chow date in the new year!

The web list may only be a sample of guaranteed bottles with specials offered in house. I'd like to hear if that's the case.

The owner seems to be pretty social media savvy, responding to urban spoon, yelp etc. Maybe he''ll chime in!

I've been twice, once about a month and a half after opening and another two months ago. I really enjoyed it the chowder I had both times as it's delish! Chef Kanka is known for his fish skills and they are all local and or sustainable! It's a bit too far for me to go more regularly which is a shame as I really enjoyed both experiences.

Thanks LexiFirefly. Sounds like it migtht be worth the trip. I like that you can bring your own wine.

            Anyone else?

It's official. Scarborough has another established press review and trip worthy restaurant. LexiFirefly, by the description of the chowder contained within, I can see why you like it. That alone sounds trip worthy.
