Too Much Cantaloupe

Hi there,
I have too much cantaloupe.

Are there any really great cantaloupe recipes that "transform" it? I'm interested in things that I can freeze or otherwise store. Lemme know if you have any ideas.

  1. Puree then freeze it. You can then use it for smoothies and sorbet, or in sauces for poultry or pork.

      Or make sorbet. How much cantaloupe do you have?

      I halved the sugar syrup and added some lime zest. It keeps forever in the freezer well covered.

        Or if you prefer, cantaloupe granita. Michael Chiarella has a recipe on FN. It was quite good.

      2. I love to have things like that in my freezer for the winter doldrums! Think about how wonderful a bowl of cold cantaloupe soup would brighten a cold February day! You can either puree and freeze or just freeze it in chunks. If you want a recipe for the soup let me know.

        I always stock up on local blueberries, strawberries, corn, tomatoes, etc. Nothing better.

        1. Someone on the jamming 2013 thread had a cantaloupe jam recipe.. would that be useful?

          1. I often use extra fruit to make popsicles. If you have popsicle molds (or just popsicle sticks and paper cups), you can use any combination of puréed fruit, plus some yogurt if you like.

            The only warning (from experience)-- think about color if you're combining fruits! No one likes a brown fruit popsicle. Cantaloupe would mix well with anything yellow, orange, red, or white. Nothing purple! You'd have to eat them blindfolded.
