Enjoyable dinner @ Coweta Club, Newnan

  • 0

There isn't much on CH about places to eat in Coweta County, so I thought I'd post about our dinner at the Coweta Club last weekend.

We arrived around 7:30 pm and the place was empty... just our four-top and one other couple. But, it's a nice room. We were greeted warmly and seated at a table near the fireplace. I can imagine it must be lovely in winter!

They were offering a prix fixe menu, in addition to their regular menu. The prix fixe included a starter, a salad and a main. Dessert was not included.

Two of us had the prix fixe and two ordered off the regular menu. We ordered the local veg soup for the starter (white acre peas/tomatoes/other veg), and a couple of salads. We asked them to bring all at once, because we wanted to share and they were happy to oblige. The soup was excellent and I wanted to eat the orange vinaigrette with a spoon. They also served bread, which I didn't taste, but it looked lovely.

I had the sea bass on grits and sauteed okra. It was perfectly cooked and the grits were some of the best I've ever had. DH had the harissa lamb tenderloins and raved about them. They were a bit spicy for my taste, but cooked beautifully. I don't recall seeing lamb tenderloin on many menus. I can't remember what the others had... I think one had the same fish I did and the other had shrimp and grits.

Because I had asked what was in the delicious vinaigrette, the chef came out to chat with us. He was charming. When he told me he was from Brooklyn, I commented he has certainly taken well to our Southern fare. He told us about his combination of "nation of Islam bean pie" (I had to Google it when I got home) and Southern buttermilk pie. So, we had to try a piece. It was interesting. Actually it was very good, but I think I prefer traditional buttermilk pie! :-)

At any rate, if one is looking for a nice meal when down in Coweta County, this place is definitely worth a try. (Oh, and the prices are incredibly reasonable!)

Edited to add the link and say this is at a golf club, but is open to the public:
