solo bar dining in London

I'm traveling for work from NYC and looking for a restaurant or two in London with great food that you can eat at the bar (specifically one that is open Sunday night) for a solo diner. St. John is already on the list. Bars with good food also work. I'm staying in Bloomsbury for part of the time and Shoreditch the rest, but willing to travel for good food. Thanks.

  1. My favourite places to eat at the bar:

    Terroirs and Donostia.

I haven't eaten at the bar of Salt Yard or Green Man and French Horn but have eaten in the restauarant , their food is very good and they have bar areas to eat at.

Terroirs and Green Man and French Horn are sadly not open Sunday night. I will have a think and post again!

    2. Bocca di Lupo is worth consideration.

      1. Not at the bar per se, but Amaya has a wonderful communal table for solo diners.

        1. Hawksmoor? Several branches are open on Sundays and while they have bar-specific menus they are often flexible and let you order from the main menu too. Good cocktails too.

The Hawksmoor at Spitalfields would be the nearest one to Shoreditch, and their bar food is usually very good. Not a problem to go there as a solo diner.

          2. I saw people eating at the bar at Cafe Spice Namaste last night. If you're in the mood for wonderful Indian food......

            1. Barrafina in Frith Street is all counter/bar dining and is now open Sundays. No reservations, though.

              1. L'Atelier Joel Rubuchon is very good if you're on your own (and is open Sundays). Similarly try the 'bar' around the kitchen at Hedone. Bit of a trek out to Chiswick, but worth it none the less.

You could also consider Kitchen Table out back at Bubbledogs.

                1. Does arbutus open sun they have a bar? Nobu used to have a no booking bar but its hardly exotic. Corrigans Mayfair also serve or served at the bar. J

                  1. Koya for brilliant small plates (on their specials board), or Koya Bar next door for udon on Frith Street.

                    1. I've eaten solo at the J.Sheeky Oyster Bar and really enjoyed it. It is open on Sundays. Food is great and it is a nice atmosphere.
