50+ people, looking for a private restaurant room to reserve in Orlando, Friday of Megacon (Mar 21 2014)

  • 9

Hello!

So a very large group of friends and acquaintances of mine (all former members of the sci-fi club at Florida Tech) wanted to do a giant get together/reunion the Friday of Megacon 2014. We're anticipating about 50 people give or take some, spanning a decade of members, all with a variety of food needs. We're generally in our 20s or early 30s, so still on a bit of a budget - probably between $10-$20 per person before tips and drinks. I'm thinking classic American food with a large and varied menu to anticipate any problems, with a large private room to anticipate us, preferably just quiet enough that we can all converse and catch up.

Any recommendations?

  1. What comes to my mind is BJ's Brewhouse.
It is a chain but it has all that you request.
A room that would hold your crew
American Food with a pretty large menu (even gluten free items)
    Decent pricing 10-20

      Sista!!
Millers Ale House has great food and beer.
      Ravenous Pig..more $$

    2. I don't think you're going to find many restaurants in that price range that are equipped to host private functions. Most places that cater to large groups and parties are going to be somewhat more upscale, even if they're still mostly casual (i.e. not "fine dining").

One suggestion is Maggiano's, the Italian restaurant in Pointe Orlando shopping center, very close to the Orange County Convention Center. They have a variety of private rooms, the food is very decent, and the location should be perfect for you. But again, you're going to need to adjust your expectations, price-wise.

      1. Do you need to be in the tourist part of town? If not, maybe Maxine's on Shine. Great prices, fun atmosphere. In the tourist corridor, Cuba Libre may do the trick, and it even has private rooms. Agave Azul? Marlow's Tavern might be good for you. That's at Pointe Orlando on International Drive. Most are chains, and some aren't American, but you may have to be flexible. Bravo on Restaurant Row?

        1. As Rona suggested, Marlow's Tavern is a great option as all their items are under $20 but still great American food..not sure how many they can fit though!

I haven't been to Marlow's Tavern yet. Is it big enough to hold 50 people?

I think that is the hardest part of the request within a budget.

But I looked Marlow's up and the food looks good.

I don't know how many Marlow's can accommodate, but surely the place has way more than 50 seats. At the media luncheon, we sat at long communal tables, and those can be great for a group like this. The food is quite good even though the restaurant is a chain. It's American and it's reasonably priced. Kawatan, I'd suggest you call and ask about the size.

Ha Great! Thanks Tasty and Rona. I work off of I-drive and this might be a great place for work lunches

I had no idea so thanks for the heads up! :)
