Seeking a Recipe

blizzardfox Aug 31, 2013 03:20 PM

I have searched non-stop and now I find myself here, seeking help.

My grandmother's birthday is coming up and from time to time she reminisces over a cake she once made from a recipe. With some sleuthing, I found it was the Alice Waters cake recipe from the June 1982 Bon Appetit article titled "Create a Masterpiece: Step by Step to a Spectacular Celebration Cake". The problem I have found is that I can't find the actual recipe anywhere!

Does anyone happen to have a copy of this recipe laying around their archives that would take pity on a 20-something man trying to make his grandmother's birthday special?

Thank you so much!

I can't help you with the recipe but it seems Alice Waters is on Facebook. I bet if you state your case on her page, she just might come through for you! As a mother of a 20-something young man myself, may I say that your own mother and grandmother must be so proud? Good luck!

That title is referenced in this, post, maybe contact the person who referenced it and see if they have it, or contact Bon apetit by phone or through their website http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/447447

Also contact your library and see if they have back issues

Maybe this thread on another board to help http://www.seriouseats.com/talk/2011/...

Sadly no. I asked my grandmother (running the ingredients and instructions past her) and she said the cake didn't have any cream cheese in it. I really appreciate your help (and everyone else's too)!

Her name is Alice Medrich, perhaps you can contact her at http://alicemedrich.com/?page_id=11 for help. I have the 1982 edition of Bon Appetit, however the article & recipe are many pages long so I don't know how I could help you.

Do you have access to a scanner? You could scan the pages and email them?

Alice Medrich is on Face Book. Send her a message and she might be able to help you. Alice Waters is not who made the cake.

                  Is it this? http://books.google.com/books?id=lxrZ...

And there's this video on PBS for a raspberry version: http://video.pbs.org/video/1174161648/

Last thought, Alice Medrich has a beautiful website through which you may be able to ask her: http://alicemedrich.com

Is there any chance you found the recipe? I believe I am looking for the same one...also for my grandmother who has dementia and cannot remember the name
