Nice place for Cocktails in Los Angeles

SkinnyFists Aug 30, 2013 05:17 PM

Hi guys,

I am looking for a nice place to take my girlfriend for cocktails this weekend. We are looking for a dressy place without the stuck-up attitude. Something in the vein of The Violet Hour in Chicago. Nice, innovative cocktails, and maybe even something to snack on, though not necessary at all.

Edit: Sorry. I forgot to mention location preferences. Any neighborhood that is in the general LA area. From Santa Monica to Downtown to Silver Lake. We live in Studio City and are willing to drive.

        Bar Toscana in Brentwood.
They take reservations. Love the tables next to the window. Roberto is a great host. Food is excellent, cocktails are uniformally outstanding. Nice crowd

Have you been to the Varnish http://213nightlife.com/thevarnish or Seven Grand http://213nightlife.com/sevengrand before? They would both make my list for something like you seem to want.

+1 on the Varnish. One of my fave places for a cocktail without the scene (though I usually go early when there's less people).

Rivera in downtown LA. But with this heat, head to Santa Monica and try Bar Copa, Penthouse at the Huntley, Casa del Mar hotel.

              Do you mean Copa D'Oro?

If I'm not mistaken, there's a Bar Copa on Main Street in SM.

And then there's also a Copa d' Ora on Broadway (or is it Colorado?).

I also thought that Copa d Ora might have been the one with mixology style cocktails. Is that right ?

Yes, it's on Broadway, & it has the mixology going on....

I was not aware of a place called Bar Copa on Main St! Cool, another bar to explore.....

Second to the Casa del Mar recommendation, extra if you get there while it's daylight. Beautiful!

                  Never been.

                  Unless you mean Bar Bouchon.

I like the ritzy hotel bars, too (in addition to my seconding the suggestion of Bar Toscana, above). E.g., hotel bars I've gone recently for upscale cocktails are the bar in the lobby of the SLS, the Peninsula in BH and the Four Seasons in BH. And of course there's the BH Hotel and Hotel Bel Air.

We should include the Penthouse at the Huntley on 2nd & California in Santa Monica. Best view in the city, and they make a nice martini, not sure about the food or other cocktails, though.
