Red House in Cranston-Authentic Sichuan Dishes
Passed this place a couple of times driving through Pawtuxet Village, before stopping in for takeout yesterday. I ordered dry fried chicken (with fried dough twists?!-not sure what that was all about). Could've used a little ma to go with the la. Also tried the dried fried shredded beef with chiles. This was good, but could've used a little hot oil for bit of moisture. I wanted the dry fried green beans, but settled for some poached cabbage, which was pretty good. I'll definitely try other things when I get back there again.
They had well-known dishes like oil-poached beef and fish filets in chile oil, but kept talking up the hot pot. It looked like 2 very young dudes were in charge, and it looks like they are really aiming to please, but aren't sure about how to achieve this goal. I talked to them about advertising and menu choices, and they admitted they didn't know much about either.
This is a place I will support, and other area Chowhounders should, too. No it's not Sichuan Gourmet South, but they are making an effort to provide more than celery and baby carrots in brown glop. Maybe if we help guide them along, it can turn into something special.
Hopefully, this will get more attention than my last post about authentic Chinese in the Rhode Island wasteland.
