Black in my rum!

I put some light Bacardi rum in an empty water plastic bottle to take on a trip...I completely forgot it (it may have been there more than a year) and now there is black at the bottom of the doesn't seem to be granular at all...when I move the bottle it kind of filters up then resettles. Any idea what this is and/or if the rum is still drinkable?

  1. I wouldn't drink it. Various chemicals (such as BPA) can leach out of plastic bottles over time. Read this to see if your bottle is susceptible. --

I looked at that info. Alcohol is safe for long term storage in #2 HDPE (high density polyethylene.) I don't know about #4 LDPE (low density polyethylene), or a #5 PP (polypropylene)

Yeah, if they can identify that the type of plastic is safe and filter out the sediment, then maybe it's drinkable.

    2. Yo Ho Ho and a bottle of Rum!
....."Fifteen men on the dead man's chest--
...Yo-ho-ho, and a bottle of rum!
Drink and the devil had done for the rest--
...Yo-ho-ho, and a bottle of rum!"
      Drink it by god!

      1. Its Barcardi. Its questionable. Probably no one knows for sure. Throw it out and move on.
