Batali and Charlestown Olives location....

Saw this in Charlestown does have a wood burning oven, though Figs right down the street ( meh at best). Could be much worse outcome for the Olives space ( like Legals).

Ok you heard it here first. Guy named Mario Batali is interested, large group took a tour this evening. Not sure what he cooks, rather large imposing fella.

  1. That would be an amazingly good fit.

      1. It will be Italian for sure. Will be interesting to see if it's good. I've been let down in so many celebrity chef's restaurants.

Otto in NYC is very very good. Great charcuterie, wonderful cheeses, great in season veggie small plates , excellent small portion pastas and an interesting take on pizza. Amazing wine list much of which available as quartinos. I am in minority but wasn't so nuts about Babbo. It was ok. Just not life changing as so many others think. But man either is better than Speedy Wong or Faux Figs or Tangerino or anything else CTown has to offer at this point.

I didn't love Babbo, either, but thought Batali-Otto was great and a bargain.

And quite competent bartenders ( Dennis). Lets hope.

I strongly agree that Otto is an excellent value. I have sent several budget minded friends and relatives to the NYC location when they have been there visiting, and they have uniformly raved about the food and amount of the bill. They also do an outstanding job with children.

I went to the Las Vegas location once and it was not on par with the NYC original. If it is an Otto concept (rebranded because Otto Portland stole their name), it will be interesting to see how well they can translate. If it is close to the original it will do very well.

          2. And this is based on a reader comment, which we all know are 100% accurate and truthful.

            1. I know the fella you mean, but I thought he ran a comic book store in Springfield...... ;-)

Wow really a tough crowd to pass a rumor to....just a rumor not a constitutional amendment. Will have it notarized next time. Still think it would be a great fit.
