Friday Dinner for Two in South End

I like the size, ambiance, food, and professional staff of Eastern Standard. Is there an equivalent in the South End? Cinquecento is reviewed "too noisy." Coppa, "too small." Looking for consistent food and service in a place quiet enough to talk but not a hole-in-the-wall.

the problem with coppa is too noisy unless you eat out on the side-walk.

      Hammersley's is a classic.

Have you been to Metropolis Cafe or Aquitaine? The same group also owns Union Bar and Grille as well as Gaslight, which all have potential for what you're looking for.
