My family will be in Friday Harbor for 3 nights in mid-September for a wedding. We'll be renting a house. Looking for ideas for meals out-both simple and celebratory (good coffee ideas, too) and for groceries. The posts on the board are pretty old. Any info?

    Hi, Girl:

Duck Soup Inn remains the class act of San Juan Island, IMHO.

    Aloha,

There is a restaurant called The Back Door ___ (Cafe? not sure) which is lovely -- upscale, seasonal food. It's a bit hard to find -- right behind downtown-- but it's a beautiful restaurant with delicious and interesting food. Absolutely the best place I"ve found in Friday Harbor. There is also a great little fish market down at the end of the dock -- we love to get fresh oysters to shuck when we are there. The seaweed salad they sell is a fav of mine.

We had a really nice meal here. My vote was Duck Soup, but I was out voted by the group....next time:)

is there any further news about Downriggers? I know it was touristy but we enjoyed it (of course, when we are in the PNW we are tourists!)

Both the Backdoor Kitchen and Duck Soup Inn are excellent. Small and intimate? Coho. Sushi? Tops'l. Nice family dinner in great atmosphere? Cask and Schooner. Casual family with great food? Haley's Bar and Grill (good bar). Food and music? Rumor Mill. Avoid?? Hungry Clam. Blue Water. Kung Fu Pizza. Hidden gem? Vinnys Ristorante....lasagne to die for!

Wow, thanks all! I'll start checking all these places out. We're here for a family wedding with reception at the yacht club, but we have three nights on the island, at a rental house. We'll probably eat at least a couple of meals out-with kids and adults-and maybe one meal for us as a couple, sans kids.
