From the UT San Diego:

You gotta laugh.

  1. Or cry.

No wonder New Yorkers would laugh at us for being named Best Pizza by Trip Advisor - Filippi's Best Pizza both north and south of the 56.

Yeesh. Then again, it IS the UT poll....

    1. I find the winners of "Chinese" the most comical. All credibility is gone when I see P.F Changs and Panda Express

I notice that Pei Wei Herman wasn't even in the running.

If you think the Asian is bad, check out the Mexican. Diane Powers must be thrilled

Thing is, sadly, there are some good restaurants scattered among the mish-mash of this UT(erlly nonsense) "Best of" thingy. Almost embarrassing for those good restaurants because the Ut's vote-based "rankings" are total BS and less than useless, IMO. Too bad many among the unwashed masses look at these so-called "rankings" and listen, believing in them. Enough said. We just went through this on the TA pizza thing.

@DD I bet one of those Casa places could be closed for 2 years and it would still make the list.

          2. Gave me some laughs, all right. What a bad joke.

                1. In the Food Truck category, not one Marisco's truck, how thorough. Also the Mexican list, really? Great job UT, at least they're consistent.

Folks, it's not the UT's problem. This is a poll, and therefore a popularity contest.

I think the UT has done pretty well with their articles and reviews.

The poll reflects the greatest number of votes, which is not an indicator of quality at all. The more respondents, the greater trend to mediocrity, as each establishment bends over backwards to please the broadest range of customers. Something about keeping a business alive- entrepreneurs are fussy that way.

BUT! Cheesecake Factory only showed up in "desserts". That's a step in the right direction.

Great point FN about the 'readers poll', thanks for keeping us in scope and on topic. Glad I'm not a reader. Another 'Best of' success story.
