Staub cocotte - dishwasher safe?

After reading comparisons, I just bought a Staub cocotte. Has anyone with one wash it frequently in the dishwasher? How has it held up? The instructions say that they can, but the non-stick may get damaged. Thanks for the help.

  1. I've washed them (for years) in the dishwasher. Doesn't hurt them a bit.

From time to time, you may notice a little white residue remaining on the interior after washing. In that case, apply Barkeeper's Friend with a damp Scotch-Brite scrub sponge, and it will look like new.

    1. I've attached a photo of a Staub Dutch oven that I thought had been ruined. However, after soaking overnight, and using Barkeeper's friend, this pot is once again pristine. This sad event happened several years ago and the pot is no worse for the wear.

So as you can see, you have no worries about whether your new cocette will hold up well - it will be just fine, even if you abuse it!

I was quite upset as I came home from a long day at work to find the house full of smoke and the meal and the pot ruined. House cleaners changed the setting on the oven from 190F to 375F early in the morning, just after I left for work. It looked even worse in person. It was so bad that I wasn't even going to bother trying to clean it. Luckily, I thought, "what do I have to lose?" and left it in the sink overnight with Dawn Overnight Power Dissolver. Now it looks as good as new.
