UWS meat and bread

I've just moved to the UWS of Manhattan. Where are good places to buy quality kosher meat (everything from lamb shanks to deli) and bread (prefer something more interesting than Zomicks).

Thanks!

    Fairway for bread.

For meat Fairway if they have what you're looking for. Otherwise Kosher Marketplace has the best quality, while Seasons tends to be a little cheaper(and lower quality).

Have been consistently unimpressed with the quality of both Kosher Marketplace (numerous instances of purchasing meat on Thursday that is spoiled by Friday night, coupled with rude/hostile staff), as well as Seasons (although, in fairness to them, they don't market themselves as a high-end butcher).

If limited to the UWS, I'd recommend Fischer Bros & Leslie (72nd btwn Broadway and West End) for quality and service.

Personally, I try to trek over to the UES to Prime Butcher - pricey, but far, far superior to KMP and Seaons.

Fairway for all sorts of fun and interesting breads. Consistently high quality breads.

I'm vegetarian so I can't help on the meat front. However, I hear that the Fairway fish department doesn't bat an eye if you ask them to use your knife in preparing fish and might also keep a separate knife for certain fish. This way, you can have access to a wider variety of fish and be certain that the fish you're buying is the fish you think it is. Apparently this is a problem in buying fish across the board, not specifically with kosher consumers (http://www.nytimes.com/2013/02/21/us/...) but I could see it being doubly problematic for us.

Fairway for bread. Kosher Marketplace or, if you pass through Times Square, the butcher shop at La Marais for the best quality and special things like pate, sausage...

The meat at Le Marais certainly LOOKS beautiful, but I've never been able to make myself pay quite that much for meat.

They make wonderful pate. Their sausages are heavenly. They sell skinned duck breasts with the fat trimmed off. These are things I'm willing to sometimes pay for. Sometimes it's nice to be able to indulge.

Prime butcher baker on the upper east side is probably your best bet for quality meat anf takeout

For bread I really like the brand Bread Alone (sold at Fairway). They sell (sometimes) unsliced loaves that are under the chof-k. Somehow everything they make is amazing.

Whole Foods (the 97th street location, at least) also carries Bread Alone, some sliced, some that's basically a quarter of a large loaf.

Fairway's house made breads are excellent, the Bread Alone breads are usually good, and some of the Eli's breads are kosher (packaged, but near the bakery)
