How do you clean a double mesh strainer??

Hey all!

We recently bought a double mesh strainer like the one in the picture, and it's great. BUT I have not figured out a satisfactory way to clean it.

Little bits of food will get stuck btwn the two layers or stuck in the finer mesh. Oy.

Do you have one of these? How do you clean yours?

  1. Hi, Stef:

How? High water pressure, a stiff brush, a lot of cursing and stomping, and a helpful spouse all help.

Seriously, I have been reduced to cleaning my Extra-Fine Chinoise with a pressure washer. A major PITA, but worth it if you want the results of the sieve size. It also helps to reverse the direction of the food-- wash it back INTO the strainer.

And either wash right after using, or submerge it so nothing has a chance to dry onto the mesh.

        That's what I do, g. Never had a problem.

    2. In a bowl of soapy water with a toothbrush, scrubbing and rapidly lifting up and down creating a kind of vortex. It is easier to do than it sounds.
