Homestead [Oakland]

Ate at Homestead last night. The experience was generally fine. The greeting was very warm and prompt. Even several of the line cooks said Hi! There are many line cooks and waitstaff for such a small restaurant. We (two friends) shared three courses and each ordered our own main. We shared the ricotta, peach and coppa course- excellent. All the elements were excellent together. We shared the shrimp, bean course. Although it was good, I did not like it as much. I ordered the salted Halibut with hollandaise and potatoes. Although I am not a big fan of Hollandaise I thought the dish was very good. My friends ordered the pork and corn dish which was great. I preferred that. The dessert was a big disappointment. We shared the cornmeal plum cake. The plums were flavorless and they probably should have used another variety or used figs or peaches which would have been in season more than some plums. My husband did buy some very good Elephant heart plums today, but clearly the plums they use last night were not prime. The whipped cream was over whipped. The wine list has some inexpensive choices, but it it not inspiring . We ordered a mediocre WV Pinot. The waitress did not know much about the wine list. All this being said, Homestead has only been open two weeks, I believe, and I think they are doing a good job. I would go back
