[Greater Manchester/North Cheshire] Looking for a really good Italian restaurant

Not one of the multitude of places that major on the usual pizza and pasta offerings, with a few "standards" chucked in. But somewhere really good - nice short menu of "proper" dishes, if you know what I mean.

Somewhere like Da Piero on Wirral, or Tuscan Kitchen in Rye. Or, indeed, like the city centre's Stock when it was in its heyday and really good (with it's Good Food Guide listing and everything).

I've Googled and nosied at websites without any degree of success. So, does this place exist? Or, even, just somewhere better than the the bog standard Italians which is all I'm finding.

(PS: Other than San Carlo Cicchetti - which is great if you only want a small plates meal)
