Los Angeles Dish of the Month (September 2013) - Nominations

It's that time of the month again -- to nominate what we'd like to see for the Dish of the Month for September.

The August 2013 Dish of the Month was Salads. Maybe to break our Puritan-esque diet for the past 30 days, it's time for a little indulgence?

The idea is this: choose a 'Dish of the Month' for the LA area and then collectively try as many versions of this dish as possible during the month of September, reporting back with details and photos. It's great to talk about places you've been in the past, but the idea is to explore new places and make new discoveries.

The dish that gets chosen might be something very specific (pork bung casserole) but might also be more of a dish category (bread). It's up to everyone here, but it probably makes sense to choose something that locals are excited about trying and finding the best and most interesting versions!

Some ideas off the top of my head to perhaps get the juices flowing:

ICE CREAM
NON-DAIRY FROZEN TREATS
NON-PERISHABLE TREATS
SWEET AND SALTY DESSERTS

Anyway, this is the nomination thread for September 2013…you can nominate as many dishes as you want, but once we do the voting thread (which will start on August 26), it will be one vote per user.

To nominate a dish, please (please!) post it in ALL CAPS in the responses below. This thread will be open until 11:59 PM PDT on August 25th.

    1. Soup?? Too broad? Maybe. But matzo ball soup and pho each seem to narrow, for example.

        It's good either way, Wayno.

        If you nominate a dish that you think is too broad (soup, for example), you may want to define certain parameters, such as:

        "Soup - only hot, savory soups"

        - or -

        "Soup - only cold soups"

        - or -

        "Soup - only those with pasta, rice, or other carbs in them"

        etc.

        You get the idea.

        But if you wanted a really broad category that's ok, too. We just had "Salads" right? And narrow is doable as well. Nothing wrong with a month of phở!

            Why not wait to do soup until the weather cools down a bit?

              totally agree! i love soups, but it's still a very hot So Cal Summer right now. :> i'd rather try soups when it cools down also.

                  I agree. Usually, the last thing on my mind during a hot summer is a hot bowl of anything, but for some reason, I have been craving soup this summer. I'm going with my gut on this one. Literally.

                    Not to mention there is some culinary poetry to having soup, salad, sandwiches as consecutive dishes of the month.
