Quick midcoast- Maine trip report

  • 1

Just back from a great week in Midcoast Maine. We stayed in Bayside Village, just south of Belfast (fantastic place to rent a vacation home by the way).
Some of our favorites:
Laan Xang - Belfast - Thai-Loatian-Vietnamese. Loved it! Service a bit slow, but great view of harbor. And the food was fantastic! Best Drunken Noodle I've ever had. My 8 year old loved the dumplings, summer rolls, and pad thai (all good - I tried!) and my youngest devoured a bowl of vegetable and tofu pho. We ate here twice.

Young's Lobster pound - Belfast - Also ate here twice. Great lobster. Decent prices. Great view. Lobster roll was one of the best I have ever had.

Cappy Chowder House - Camden. Ate here out of nostalgia (hubby and I ate here on our first trip to Maine together in 1997) and wasn't expecting much but had a great meal. Lobster dinner was great and had great sides (the roasted brussel sprouts and corn pudding were to die for!) It was nice to have meal with sides other than corn on the cob and cole slaw. Also fantastic bluebery pie.

Owls Head General store - Big sign proclaiming it one of the best burgers in Maine from Food Network. They were not wrong. Burger was perfection. I had the chicken salad special that was on raisin sourdough with sliced apples and honey mayo. OMG. So good. A little sweet but I like sweet with my chicken salad.

Harraseeket Lobster pound - OK. Lobster roll was not the best I have had. Lobster tasted "stored" or something. Not super fresh. I don't know. Hubby's fried haddock sandwich was pretty good.

Darby's - Belfast - Good, has the potential to be great. Good service, especially good with kids, got us in and out fast after a long day. Calamari were great. Everything else lacked a bit of seasoning but had potential.

Cant wait for next year's trip! Let me know if you have questions.

  1. Thanks for the report! We went up to Belfast to go to 3 Tides but it was closed Mondays. We looked at Laan Xang but ended up at Darby's. As you mentioned it has great potential. Next time we'll try Laan Xang. Interesting that Belfast has so many Loatian places.
