Happy National Rum Day - favorite rum drinks?

Today is National Rum Day, according to Imbibe. So that got me wondering what some favorite rum drinks are of you chowhounds out there. The first three that come to my mind are the Mai Tai, the Hemmingway Daiquri and the Dark 'n' Stormy.

    1. Mount Gay with tonic and Dark and Stormies are my preferences. Oh and my SIL's bajan rum punch.

      1. El dorado 12 year neat.

        Painkillers are also awesome, especially with the Pusser's ratio dialed up.

          I like Painkillers a lot, but I'm part of the Pussers boycot so don't use it anymore. I put a Painkiller on the menu in a bar recently using 1.5 oz. of El Dorado dark rum and 1 oz. Coruba Jamaican dark rum. Although I personally like the ratios reversed better, the majority of customers like it a little sweeter from the El Dorado demerara rum.

            What ratio do you use in your corn n oil?

            1. If the sun's up, it's amber rum with an ice cube or two and a wedge of lime.

              After the sun has set, it's amber or dark rum, neat.

              1. Painkiller (see my version in photo with lime, lime zest, cinnamon, and fresh grated nutmeg)
                here's my adaptation
                1-1/2 oz. El Dorado dark rum
                1 oz. Coruba (or Myer's) dark Jamaican rum
                4 oz. pineapple juice
                1 oz. orange juice
                1 oz. Coco Lopez

                Shake all except spices with crushed ice. Pour into a tall glass or tiki mug, add crushed ice to fill. Sprinkle with grated cinnamon, freshly grated nutmeg, and small pieces of lime zest. Garnish with a scored lime (Tribal lime.)

                A scored lime garnish is a very old and rarely used tiki drink garnish that I use a lot in tiki drinks. I call it a Tribal lime. See photo.

                The Ancient Mariner– Beachbum Berry, 1994, his version of Trader Vic’s Navy Grog. Here is my adaptation of it.
                1 oz. El Dorado dark rum
                1 oz. dark Jamaican rum
                3/4 oz. lime juice
                1/2 oz. grapefruit juice
                1/2 oz. simple syrup
                1/4 oz. Allspice syrup

                Shake with ice and strain into a hurricane glass, then top off with ice. Garnish with a mint sprig and scored lime.

                1. I really enjoy fine rum a lot. Both straight or the rocks, and in cocktails. The El Dorado line is great, but I have dozens of other favorites as well.

                  1. What?!?! No one mentioned a Hemmingway Daiquiri?!?!? Oh, so wonderful on a hot summer day :)

                    I really am a sucker for anything with maraschino in it...
