What's going on with Bouley?

For my anniversary I reserved Bouley and was very excited about our upcoming meal, wanted to go there for a really long time. All of a sudden yesterday I got a call saying that they will be closed because of some renovation! I was so shocked that I didn't even asked any questions.
They called me 3 days before my reservation to let me know? Really?
Very disappointed and upset because now all my plans for Saturday are ruined!

        no, they didn't even offer to reschedule, and I was to upset to think about it

          Argh, how frustrating! I would call them back ASAP to try to reschedule.

      2. Oh, wow. Weird. Must have been something rather sudden - when you look at them on opentable it says "restaurant offline"

        A few higher-end places I'm seeing listed with openings for that night, though, for a last-minute change. In alphabetical order: Ai Fiori, Aquavit, Café Boulud (late tables only), Craft, Del Posto (late only), Gramercy Tavern, Jungsik... All obviously different, but all could be anniversary-worthy.

        1. Additionally on Sat. Aug 17th ,

          Jean Georges (5:00pm, 5:30pm)

          Marea (9:00pm)

          The Modern - Dining Room (5:30pm, 5:45pm)

          Del Posto (4:30pm, 5:00pm, 10:00pm, 10:30pm)

            Jean Georges would be too expensive

              Bouley is the only higher-end restaurant that is "exciting"? Nothing else would do? Forgive the expression, but I find that a bit hard to swallow. There are some excellent suggestions here.

                Yes. And I've been to every restaurant that was suggested above except Jean Georges, and didn't find them exciting enough for a speacial occasion. I can even tell you that I hated Del Posto. People's tastes are different, learn to deal with it.

                  Have you tried Jungsik or Atera?
                  I believe Bouley and Daniel are the least exciting of all the top restaurant of NY...
                  Maybe you should consider giving an other shot to those other restaurants..

                Bouley is not that great, and it's steeply expensive.

            2. what's even more strange is that one of the yelp reviews from Aug 1 describes the same situation! his reservation also got canceled due to renovation!
