Untappd- the "beer Facebook"

Has anyone else been using this app? The interface, check-in, and commenting seems inspired by FB. I'm actually enjoying tracking what I'm drinking and reading comments on beers from friends. But haven't really used any of the other features.

  1. Not a user, I keep track of all the beer I've had in my head - I guess you just remember the important things in life. ;-)

I do find all the twitter cross-over posts from untappd annoying though when they are devoid of comment/opinion. Like any one wants to know what beer you are drinking - adding your opinion at least makes it a little more interesting.

Yes, i disable the FB connections and thankfully, all my friends do as well.

It's a helpful way to track gypsy brews and Euro beers, for example, Yeast Series 2.0 Brettanomyces Bruxellensis by Mikkeller and Morpheus Wild Undressed by Picobrouwerji Alvinne...

    2. Just recently started using it. I disabled the facebook feature too. No need to share with the world what beer(s) I am drinking. My American friends might think I have a problem...

      1. Try the ratebeer app, it's awesome

        1. As someone who rarely remembers what she drinks, I find Untappd (beer) and the Vivino (wine) both quite helpful. Don't post on facebook and rarely look at what my friends are drinking, but I do like these apps for keep track of what I've drunk and where. Especially at beer tasting events. I haven't followed any of the recommendations, but I do look them over. I like that Untappd has everything from Coors Light to my local brew pub's latest beer Hay is for Horses.

If I was someone who drinks and drives I would think twice about using an app that tracks my drinking habits. But for a non frequent drinker with a bad memory it works for me.

            Wow, that's a lot to remember , I guess.

          2. I was standing in line at a brewery and this woman in front of me was on her phone making a entry for untapped.
To make conversation I said to her are you logging in to untapped. She said yes and asked me if I was on untapped.
I said no, she proceeded to tell me only real beer connoisseurs
are on untapped. I use this quote all the time with my friends guaranteed to bring a laugh...

Annoying for sure. But the more I track my beers, the more useful I find the app as I circle back and encounter them again and wonder what my thoughts were the first time. The social functions, I don't use much though.
