Mundo - Is it turning the corner?

We have been somewhat disappointed with Mundo the last two times we dined there prior to attending shows at the Smith Center. In fact, we had decided to go to Triple George for the next show after giving Mundo one more chance. However, our dining experience last night may just delay our first meal at Triple George.

Mundo has always had great lighting and nice furnishings, but sometimes the music is too loud, the tables too close etc. Not the case on this visit - you could hold a conversation without shouting and the tables were spaced enough to provide some privacy. The service was solid with the only negative being our waiter never returned to make sure our entrees were properly prepared (fortunately they were).

They are offering a grilled calamari appetizer on the menu along with several other new items. We decided to give it a try and it was hit for the entire table. Perfectly prepared, tender and very flavorful and served over a bed of mixed greens along with some pickled red onion. The sweet corn tamale with shrimp was excellent. The pork tenderloin was cooked to the requested medium temperature and the portion was very large. When served along with the "Mexican Risotto" it was much more than I could finish in one sitting; in fact it could have easily been split between two people.

On our prior two-three visits we booked the reservation on Open Table and in each case when completing our review noted the poor quality of the salsa and chips being served. This time the salsa was much better and was obviously house-made vs. the bottled stuff we were served on the prior visits. Maybe they do pay attention to the reviews? The chips were OK, nothing to write home about but adequate. I remember the "good old days" when Mundo served multiple salsas and had excellent chips. Oh well, one step at a time!

All-in-all a very nice experience prior to Les Miserables.

Very timely review - thanks. I have been undecided whether to return or not after reading some mediocre reviews. Based on your positive comments, I'll put them on my To Do list for our next trip.
