  1. Haven't tried it yet, but I popped into today to see what it was all about and the sandwiches looked delicious (I hope they taste as good as they looked!). Can't wait to try it. The fried chicken sandwich looks killer.

That's what I'm dying to try.

I spoke to the man on the phone and they're currently open Tuesday through Saturday, but soon they'll be open 7 days/week

    2. Was in the hood yesterday and decided to drop in. Very tiny, sparsely decorated space, clearly more conducive for the take-out crowd. Tried the fried buttermilk chicken sandwich and thought it was outstanding. A huge succulent piece of ultra crunchy chicken, smothered with the piripiri sauce and carmelized onions served on a soft bun. I could just eat that chicken by itself, but the combination with the onions, lettuce and sauce makes for a fine sandwich. It came with a tiny homemade crunchy, not too salty pickle (you can buy jars of the pickles).

Chicken was almost too big for the bun and towards the final few bites, the bun started disintegrating due to the sauce. But I guess that just made it finger licking good.

Thanks for reporting back! Wow...does your sandwich ever sound delicious! Right now it's hard for me to get there during the week, so I'm just waiting until they open on Sundays, which can't happen soon enough :)

UPDATE: I called them after I posted this, and apparently by October they plan to be open 7 days/week...Yay!!

I know! I've never seen a sandwich look so good!

            1. re: kwass

Will almost certainly be trying that. Thanks for posting :)

I made good on my promise to myself and finally tried the buttermilk fried chicken sandwich.

Pretty good. Not sure I'd put it in the OMG category, but enjoyable. Chicken is thigh meat (yay!) and beautifully tender and juicy. Lacking a bit of flavour for me though, the chicken was. Most of the flavour came from the Piri Piri sauce which was great, but I could have used a bit more on my sandwich. Roll was so-so… different than the pics I've seen of when it first opened. A dime a dozen commercial kaiser roll, though fresh enough at least.

Fries were fresh cut and quite good but I did not care for the dusting of paprika once out of the fryer. Potatoes and paprika I get, but for me paprika and fries..... not so much. Gives a fragrance and taste I’d rather not deal with haha. Despite this, I did enjoy them. If ever I go back I'd hold the paprika. Personal preference.

A pleasant enough lunch, and I'm glad I finally tried.

Thanks for the report magic. I still haven't been, so it's nice to hear about your experience.

          2. Apparently they're open 7 days a week now. This is very exciting news! Now I have no excuse not to go :)

I'm going to. If I don't get there next week, I will the following week for sure :) I'll make sure to report back.

Look forward to your thoughts on Brock.

            1. So, I went today for lunch, and I must say, their sandwiches are unbelievable!! I had the fried chicken with piri piri sauce and my friend had the fish sandwich, which was cornmeal crusted rainbow trout, with sprouts and guacamole. In the end, we decided to share both sandwiches, starting with the chicken sandwich. As we were eating the chicken sandwich, neither of us could get over how good it was! The chicken was unbelievably juicy and really crispy. The fried onions were were the perfect complement to the sandwich and the piri piri was so good, I kept using it to dip my fries into. Magic, because you said that you found the piri piri to be lacking on your sandwich, I asked for extra on the side.

Neither my friend nor I thought anything could top the chicken sandwich, but the fish sandwich did just that! OMG!! The fish was cooked perfectly! It was better than some fish I've had in high-end restaurants. It just melted in my mouth. It truly was sublime!

I know my review sounds like hyperbole, but it really was that good!

Can't wait to go back!! I'd get both sandwiches again...one for dinner and one for lunch :)

                Outstanding!

If I get back there I will be sure to order extra Piri Piri sauce, as yes, I did feel my sandwich could have benefitted from more sauce. I thought it could be slathered on anything and make it taste good. So glad you enjoyed!!

                1. re: magic

I really did! And I agree with you about the piri piri! It would be good on anything! Try dipping your fries in it next time magic! You'll love that!

P.S. I also took your advice about the paprika on the fries, and requested no paprika. Good advice :)

                  1. re: kwass

Without the paprika I think those fries are great, I could tell. Well done, sounds like you had a real find today :)

                    1. re: magic

I did! And like I said earlier, I can't wait to go back :)

              2. Magic, I'm going back on Sunday :) I can't stop thinking about this place!!!

I will def go back in the not-too-distant future.

The raw material was certainly there and I'll know how to finesse my order next time.

So happy you're loving it. You made a nice little discovery kwass!

                  1. re: magic

I'm totally loving it! And I'm sure that you'll fall in love with it as much as I have once you make those alterations.

I think I enjoyed my experience as much as I did because of your suggestions :)

                    1. re: kwass

That's the great thing about CH...

I've benefitted so much by others' suggestions and experiences so it's nice you were able to take something from my comments.

                2. Finally got around to trying this place out, and I must say they do indeed make a mighty fine sandwich. I had the fried chicken sandwich, with extra piri piri.

I'm thinking I will try the fish sandwich next time I go.

PS. LOVED THE PIRI PIRI SAUCE.

Can anyone recommend anything similar to it that I could buy somewhere? So good.

Isn't that piri piri unbelievable?! I had that sandwich again yesterday :)

You should ask if they'd sell you a jar of the piri piri. I bet they would.

And yes, you have to try the fish sandwich. It literally melts in your mouth. But just make sure that you ask for extra guacamole.

                  2. Blogto just called the burger here one of the best cheeseburgers in the city.

                    http://www.blogto.com/toronto/the_bes...

I didn't even realize they served a burger! Way to bury the lede, guys (or not even mention it at all, in this case).

                    1. Will echo the sentiments - fried chicken sandwich is amazing.

Also tried their porchetta sandwich served in a hot dog style roll. Was less impressed with this compared to the fried chicken. It's no Porchetta and Co to be sure. Glad these guys are in the neighbourhood.
