Re: liquids-- NO. You used to be able to, but now they are stricter than some places in the States. They once made me get rid of an EMPTY water bottle before boarding; I've never been asked to do that anywhere else. And in the States you can get on a plane with water/drinks you buy after you go through security, but not so at Ben Gurion anymore, at least in my experience.

The issue is Israeli security thinks the liquid rule is stupid. So they don't check at security, and duty free staff doesn't really care. As a result they then need the second screening for flights to America.

It has become way more....iffy. In the sense of 3oz. fluid bottles (contact cleaner, mouth wash, etc) - those are alright. So if it's a small bottle that can make it through security - it's fine on the plane.

The water bottle thing is really irritating, and the flight attendants aren't so understanding once you get on the plane. Bottles of water are only for business class!! (on my last flight one of the flight attendants gave me a bottle of water because I was visibly looking ill and made a big deal of how it had to be our huge secret because he could get in trouble.)

Basically the rules are like this - anything you buy in duty free goes into a sealed plastic bag and can't be open until you're in the US. Anything you buy after security in the airport can't be brought on the plane. But, anything under 3 oz you bring before security you can bring on the flight.

Regarding waterbottles on the plane, technically they do ask and lightly search for them to remove them before boarding the plane. But - theoretically - if you wanted to sneak a bottle of water onto the plane, they don't look very thoroughly. And the flight attendants don't make a fuss if they see you with a bottle of water later when you're on the plane.

Not that I promote breaking the law/policy of whichever country set the ordinance - but.....
