Inexpensive Drinks/Eats near City Center

Context: I don't spend any appreciable time downtown, and not much in Mpls proper either.

We're attending a Fringe show Friday evening. Afterwards, we'd like to get a drink or light bite to eat, that won't break the bank. (Doesn't Mpls have much higher prices AND higher sales tax than the 'burbs?)

Is this possible? Can you recommend such a place within easy and safe walking distance? Or should we be looking at getting away from downtown to find a post-show spot?

  1. Is the show actually AT City Center? I would think about Kieran's, which had some surprisingly good appetizers. Eli's has good food, as well--it's a little bit further of a walk up Hennepin (the quieter part of Hennepin). You shouldn't have to leave downtown to find what you're looking for.

So there is a theater in the City Center building (who knew? It's the New Century Theater).

+1 for Kierans. I'd put the Local in the same category. Firelake has some good happy hour specials, but I'm not sure what their prices are like later in the evening. You could also check out Butcher & the Boar's outdoor beer garden, which has a fairly limited menu (that I'm struggling to find online).

At 8pm on a Friday night, walking down Nicollet or Hennepin to any of those options should be plenty safe.
