That's a tall order! I can't think of any restaurant that never has a miss : -). Kibune has been the most consistent over the years.

I've never had a good meal @ Kibune.

Sad to hear that, Sam. We've been going for prolly 15/20 years. The parentals used to go every Friday night.

Dan is also good and reliable, though I haven't been for a while. They have serious HVAC issues there so you always smell like robata'd fish when you leave :-).

i ate at kishimoto last night and it was great

I too have had very good meals at Kishimoto...great fried squid last time, and the pressed salmon roll is fantastic

Shiro looks like a must try for me

Isn't Shiro under new management now?

            1. re: flowbee

It is, and I found the quality on my last visit had really dipped, with the price going up. But it sounds like waylman has been more recently and frequently.

I love the aburi salmon at Kishimoto, and the yuzu ice cream is great. On two of our three visits we were served still-frozen sashimi which was disappointing, and some of the special rolls are overwrought.

                still frozen...not good

Well this is terrible news re. Shiro! I haven't been in a couple weeks. When did they change mgt?

                  1. re: waylman

IIRC, early 2013, or maybe just before Christmas ?

I had it a week ago and it was the exact same as every time ive been for like 4 years now (food quality), maybe its because i go for lunch only? But I have had atrocious service a few times and awful timing on food coming out.

              2. I would have to say Bella Sushi in North Vancouver has always been spot on in my books.

                1. Ebisu on West Broadway @ Ash has always been excellent. Friendly, efficient service, fresh food and a nice atmosphere.
I've only ever been for lunch.

Still sometimes known as Kamei, the group may be the longest-running chain of Japanese restaurants in M. Vanc.

Reliable and always good service. View is great on a clear summer night.

Anyone been to the new Kamei Baru on Smithe ?

                  2. Shiro is great
