Porter Exchange, not Sapporo

  • 9

So often when I'm working from home I will go to Sapporo for lunch. Often when I go to Sapporo for lunch there's a line which I'm unwilling to stand in, and I usually wander over to Rod Dee instead.

It occurred to me today that there are usually tons of seats at the other spots, so I'm curious - if you were to not go to Sapporo, where would you go in the Exchange and what would you get? I'm not much for seafood so would prefer non-seafood (including sushi) options.

  1. I've had donburi (unadon) and cutlet curry at Ittyo, pretty good.
Bluefin has been up and down over the years, but always at least pretty good and sometimes very good, try to order the specials (sushi and kitchen).

Have you been to Ittyo recently? I used to love that place, but they changed owners/chefs and it was truly awful last time I went (a month or two ago). So disappointing.

I really like Cho Cho. And they often have seats when the smaller places are full. My favorite is the dolsot bibimbap.

I'm sorry to hear that about Ittyo. I haven't been there for quite a while.

    2. Chocho's - bibimbap
Cafe Mami - port cutlet curry, spicy yakidon, yakiniku tofu set
      Bluefin - mackerel set

Cafe Mami has been getting bad reviews here recently, but for the 3 things I usually get, I haven't noticed a big drop. Months ago I did once get a pork cutlet curry that seemed very heavy on breading and not on pork, but it was a one-off.

I used to like the katsudon at Ittyo but it was pretty bad the last time I got it several months ago.

I occasionally go to Tampopo thinking I should give it another shot, but I always leave unsatisfied.

      1. I often get the Yakiniku Donburi at Bluefin for lunch. Rice bowl, salad and miso soup for $8 makes it one of the best bargains in Porter Square.

That is great to know. Maybe Bluefin can replace Ittyo as my donburi provider...

        2. I love the beef soon du bu at ChoCho

          1. LOVE tonkatsu-don at Tampopo. My kids eat the tempura happily, and husband often has a curry bowl. Very happy.
