Local suggestions for Barcelona

Laa Laa Aug 6, 2013 08:41 AM

Hi, we are in Barcelona for just 3 days in September and looking for suggestions for places to eat that are mainly frequented by locals rather than tourists. We have a moderate budget and and will splurge for the right place! Realise there are different types of food and places to eat but would love a real local experience - did read about the Aborigens food tour but not sure if we can afford that this time. Thank you so much for your help with this.

Aborigens is the bomb. I took their morning tour at the end of August. Aside from the the incredible food we sampled, I learned a lot about the culinary culture of Barcelona and Catalan that I would not have otherwise figured out. In that respect, the price was very much worth it because my trip here was all the richer. I could go to markets and know what everything was and how to use it at home for cooking dinner.

Weshoke - I'm thinking of booking the morning tour as well. Was there a lot of food involved? Trying to decide if I need to book a lunch res after...maybe not immediately after, but still lunch. If it's a lot of food, I'll skip till our late dinner res that night. Please advise.

We did the Aborigens food tour - long story! We did the night food tour, it was amazing. Francesc Castro was our guide and his knowledge and love of Catalan food/culture shone through. We didn't stop talking food, eating and drinking all night, long past the end time given on the website. The variety of food and places ( tapas bars, both old and new Bodegas) we visited, recommendations were outstanding. One place we got to was just closing but opened back up to let us in! Nothing was too much trouble and the after care was second to none. The next day an email arrived with further recommendations of places to eat and buy local produce. Also recommendations of places to eat for the next places we were visiting. I would wholeheartedly recommend this tour and use Aborigins again if I went to Barcelona again.
