Storing coconut macaroons

How would you store coconut macaroons and still have them crispy on the outside?
I need to made 4-6 dozen as a shower gifts and need to make them ahead. How far ahead can I do this?
Also, I know I want a recipe without condensed milk and maybe have some with whipped egg whites and some with just beaten eggs. All suggestions and recipes are really appreciated. Thank you
