Thanks for the thought! Our days are packed in prep for the move and shlepping from NJ to 5T is really tough to work into the agenda!

With everyone posting about Manhattan fare, why arrange a meetup in the 5t? ;) Manhattan would be more central, no?

lots of people have been posting about long island and queens and the event, which i would definitely consider chow-ish is taking place in the 5ts

that being said, if someoen wanted to organize something in the city before school starts- id be in :-)

I don't work in Manhattan, so just as a note, I'd be schlepping out for the meetup too, whenever it will be.

But maybe the most convenient time is some day during lunch...for whoever may work in Manhattan and/or can get out there. I realize that's probably hard to do, especially for me - so maybe Sunday would work better.

I like the idea. Maybe Jezebel? Or the dairy Solo? Or, if we want great food but not novelty, Tevere84 or Mikes. Grill212 would be fun - we'd have to pick an off-hour 'cause it's tiny. The new Prime is enormous, multiple party rooms, the service is very professional but - granted that they serve great steak - has the food at Prime ever been exciting?

Grill 212 is spartan, you go just for the chow, which is wonderufl. But it's hard to think of Manhattan Chowish places that are reasonably priced.

Pizza da Solo is chowish and far less expensive than somewhere like Prime Grill and Mike's.

I'm just going to sit back and figure out what the masses say.

what I would say for myself is that anywhere in close proximity to GCT (or on the east side) is just easier for me to get to, as I take the train into Manhattan.

And I love the Pizza da Solo suggestion from Gila.

Folks, our policy is to not allow Chowdown planning on the boards, so as not to clutter the boards with planning details. We do have some guidelines for planning in-person meetups, which you can see here: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/3676...

We're happy to help with making announcements visible once events are planned.

tamar...we could set up a FB CH Kosher Board closed Group. If someone chooses to administer it, we could vet those who wish to join based on past participation on this board. CH won't like it, as it drives memebrs to places they see advertising that isn't paying CH, BUt it'd work

I already created a group like this which we could use for the purposes of this. I don't see why it has to be limited to Chowhound participants. URL is https://www.facebook.com/groups/50177...

The way most people handle this is by posting an initial announcement to their local board with an email address for people to contact if they're interested in getting together for a Chowhound dinner. If you use the 'report' link on that announcement, you can ask us to sticky it to the top of the appropriate board so it doesn't fall off the front page.

They then use email (members in some cities even have established Google or Yahoo groups or listservs, etc, for scheduling dinners) to discuss the specifics of where and when to meet.

Thanks. I appreciate the feedback. The only thing that worries me about your suggestion is that no one will know who is going if the communications are moved to a private forum. The way we're doing it now makes it known to everyone in a public forum, which I think is a better approach.

In any event, I've encouraged people to join a FB group for the purposes of this. Hopefully that will help achieve the same goal.

Request granted. Now we can start a thread about it.

It happened! Only 3 of us came though, so I would be down for a repeat.

If I had known about it I would have made an effort to come. But my job doesn't allow me to join facebook groups other than relating to my profession, so will need some other way to find out.

How can your job restrict what you do on Facebook on your own time? That seems like an absurd restriction.

Sorry to disappoint you, kids, but I am not in prison (where I actually assume fb is unrestricted except in solitary confinement), or being tortured in any way. I am simply in a profession where I need to be as neutral as possible, so I am asked to keep my fb and twitter accounts unaffiliated in terms of religion, political or philosophical beliefs.
