  1. I think we tried once a few years ago. 5t is a shlep for me, so I will not be able to make it. But good luck!

    1. re: DeisCane

:-( was thinking it was before you head to london, so maybe youd be in

      oh well

no one else seems to be interested, so we shall see

      1. re: shoelace

Thanks for the thought! Our days are packed in prep for the move and shlepping from NJ to 5T is really tough to work into the agenda!

    2. With everyone posting about Manhattan fare, why arrange a meetup in the 5t? ;) Manhattan would be more central, no?

      1. re: tamarw

lots of people have been posting about long island and queens and the event, which i would definitely consider chow-ish is taking place in the 5ts

that being said, if someoen wanted to organize something in the city before school starts- id be in :-)

        1. re: shoelace

I don't work in Manhattan, so just as a note, I'd be schlepping out for the meetup too, whenever it will be.

But maybe the most convenient time is some day during lunch...for whoever may work in Manhattan and/or can get out there. I realize that's probably hard to do, especially for me - so maybe Sunday would work better.

          1. re: AdinaA

i totally do not- i have been a complete loser this year and dont know the new stuff but would be open

            1. re: shoelace

I like the idea. Maybe Jezebel? Or the dairy Solo? Or, if we want great food but not novelty, Tevere84 or Mikes. Grill212 would be fun - we'd have to pick an off-hour 'cause it's tiny. The new Prime is enormous, multiple party rooms, the service is very professional but - granted that they serve great steak - has the food at Prime ever been exciting?

              1. re: AdinaA

                @Adina, Prime/Mike's/Solo are pretty pricey...

                1. re: PotatoPuff

i wouldnt mind pricey for good food/good service

                  1. re: shoelace

Dare I suggest Pardes? If we got enough people, I wonder if Moshe could be convinced to do a special prix fixe menu.

                  2. re: PotatoPuff

Grill 212 is spartan, you go just for the chow, which is wonderufl. But it's hard to think of Manhattan Chowish places that are reasonably priced.

                      1. re: AdinaA

Pizza da Solo is chowish and far less expensive than somewhere like Prime Grill and Mike's.

                        1. re: PotatoPuff

True. Plus atrium is spacious, lots of seating.

                          1. re: AdinaA

I would love to meet you all at Pizza da Solo! Can we do this?

                            1. re: GilaB

That would be awesome. Can we use doodle.com to coordinate a time that would work for everyone?

                              1. re: PotatoPuff

I can't imagine a time that would work for everyone. Why not schedule a lunchtime meet-up at Pizza Solo. I'll come if I can.

Then also try for Pardes or Hester, on a separate date.

                                1. re: AdinaA

Lunchtime is a good time. 8/29, perhaps?

                                  1. re: tamarw

It would need to be an early lunch for me (need to be back in the office by 12:50, and I'm a 15 minute walk from there), but there's no time that will work for everybody.

                                    1. re: GilaB

8/29 is really open for me. I could do anytime until 3.

                                    2. re: tamarw

I would have loved to, but I'll be on the road.

                                      1. re: AdinaA

Actually, 8/22 is better for me. Don't think I can do 8/29... got my Thursdays mixed up.

                                        1. re: tamarw

So close yet so far. We leave on the 22nd!

                                            1. re: tamarw

Ok, so is there any date and time that would work for all?

                                              1. re: PotatoPuff

8/22 lunchtime would be great for me.

DeisCane is moving to London on 8/22 so he wouldn't be able to do 8/29 either.

                                                1. re: tamarw

I can do the 22nd or the 29th at lunchtime...

                                                  1. re: PotatoPuff

Yeah, scratch 8/29. I can only do 8/22.

Since this post will probably be locked soon, how's 12:30 on 8/22 at Pizza da Solo?

                      2. re: AdinaA

How about one of the Hester events I've been hearing so much about? I'd love to come to one of these with my wife as civilians ;-)

                    1. re: AdinaA

I'm just going to sit back and figure out what the masses say.

what I would say for myself is that anywhere in close proximity to GCT (or on the east side) is just easier for me to get to, as I take the train into Manhattan.

And I love the Pizza da Solo suggestion from Gila.

                    2. re: tamarw

I would totally be down for a Manhattan meetup...

                    3. What time? And where (precisely) is the Texas smokehouse BBQ scheduled to happen?

                        EXTENDED SMOKEHOUSE MENU
                        12-9pm RAIN OR SHINE

obv if we were gonna meet up we should pick a specific time

                        1. re: shoelace

I may try to go towards evening.

                          1. re: AdinaA

I'm also considering it on the way back from the cemetery circuit

                            1. re: AdinaA

Just be aware that he's sold out most events. If you go towards the end of the scheduled time there may be no or limited food.

                              1. re: avitrek

im planning on showing up within the first hour or so

he will sell out for sure, id say either make it by 4, 5 or keep checking FB for updates

the first one i went to started at 4, we picked up food, and ate, and then an hour later got on line to get more to bring to our SOs at home, after waiting on line for 30 min, they were sold out of the menu items wed gotten just like 90 minutes later

                        2. Folks, our policy is to not allow Chowdown planning on the boards, so as not to clutter the boards with planning details. We do have some guidelines for planning in-person meetups, which you can see here: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/3676...

We're happy to help with making announcements visible once events are planned.

How do you suggest we do that since we can't message each other and communicate directly with each other? Genuine question, not trying to stir up anything....

                              1. re: tamarw

tamar...we could set up a FB CH Kosher Board closed Group. If someone chooses to administer it, we could vet those who wish to join based on past participation on this board. CH won't like it, as it drives memebrs to places they see advertising that isn't paying CH, BUt it'd work

                                1. re: bagelman01

We have a Google Group set up for our geographic area. Anyone can read it, you have to sign up to post.

                                  1. re: bagelman01

I already created a group like this which we could use for the purposes of this. I don't see why it has to be limited to Chowhound participants. URL is https://www.facebook.com/groups/50177...

                                  2. re: tamarw

The way most people handle this is by posting an initial announcement to their local board with an email address for people to contact if they're interested in getting together for a Chowhound dinner. If you use the 'report' link on that announcement, you can ask us to sticky it to the top of the appropriate board so it doesn't fall off the front page.

They then use email (members in some cities even have established Google or Yahoo groups or listservs, etc, for scheduling dinners) to discuss the specifics of where and when to meet.

                                    1. re: The Chowhound Team

Thanks. I appreciate the feedback. The only thing that worries me about your suggestion is that no one will know who is going if the communications are moved to a private forum. The way we're doing it now makes it known to everyone in a public forum, which I think is a better approach.

In any event, I've encouraged people to join a FB group for the purposes of this. Hopefully that will help achieve the same goal.

                                      1. re: tamarw

Requested access to the group- now what?

                                        1. re: PotatoPuff

Request granted. Now we can start a thread about it.

                                2. All, we've decided upon 12pm Friday at Pizza da Solo. Please come if you can.

If I had known about it I would have made an effort to come. But my job doesn't allow me to join facebook groups other than relating to my profession, so will need some other way to find out.

How can your job restrict what you do on Facebook on your own time? That seems like an absurd restriction.

Sorry to disappoint you, kids, but I am not in prison (where I actually assume fb is unrestricted except in solitary confinement), or being tortured in any way. I am simply in a profession where I need to be as neutral as possible, so I am asked to keep my fb and twitter accounts unaffiliated in terms of religion, political or philosophical beliefs.
